BT network services: Treviglas Community College case study

With over 900 students and 100 staff, Treviglas Community College needed a reliable network in order to manage the day-to-day running of the school, as well as being essential in protecting children online.  We were able to provide the ideal solution.

An outdated phone system made dealing with the daily phone calls to report absences, as well as the day-to-day admin of running a school, difficult for Treviglas Community College. “The hardware was old, the technology was old and it just wasn’t flexible for us”, says Lorraine Hill, Finance Director.  But that wasn’t the only issue. A basic firewall only offered one type of filtering – not ideal when the students range in age from 11-18 and have very different needs.

BT worked with the college to ensure that they had everything they needed. As well as installing BTnet, which offers high speed, dedicated internet access, they also got a modern phone system with features such as Auto Attendant and Caller Display, and the ability to transfer calls – it also allows the staff to manage the system themselves.

Alongside this, Smoothwall technology has bespoke filtering that is easily controlled by the staff, and means that all students can browse the internet safely.  Plus, internet activity is reported back to the team so that staff are always aware of the sites children are looking at.

By choosing us, Treviglas Community College also got a speedy turnaround time and great value for money.

BT delivered when they needed to - they went above and beyond. The engineers that came in really knew their stuff.
