How does Ethernet VPN work?

An Ethernet Virtual Private Network is a safe connection with speeds so fast that your teams will feel as though they’re all in the same room. Access circuits physically connect your sites to BT’s network. Choose a superfast connection, or go for fibre or copper. Your Ethernet Virtual Connections (EVCs) define how your sites are connected, and you can set rules to prioritise traffic within your network.

Optional extras for Ethernet VPN
Improved resilience

Want to increase the resilience of your network? Choose from three enhanced options:

  • Protected service: Increase the target availability to 99.97% with a second optical fibre, which is automatically used if the link fails between our Point of Presence (PoP) and your location.
  • Diverse service: This option increases your target availability to 99.998%, along with your usable bandwidth, by utilising a second Network Terminating Equipment (NTE) at your site.
  • Diverse Plus: Increase your usable bandwidth and target availability to 99.999%, through two PoPs and optical fibres, and reduce your downtime to just 25 minutes over a 5-year contract.
Added protection for key sites

While our standard service target availability is 99.93%, we can offer even higher levels of protection to ensure your most critical sites are always connected. Discuss your needs with our expert team to find a resilience option to suit your business.
