Choosing the right business broadband
The first and most critical step is selecting the broadband solution that aligns with your business needs. Our options include:
- ADSL: A basic and cost-effective model, but limited in speed. It’s suitable for very small businesses with minimal internet use and runs on the old copper cable network.
- FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet): This option offers decent speeds using a mix of fibre and copper. It’s designed for small to medium-sized businesses.
- FTTP (Fibre to the Premises): Our full fibre broadband offers high-speed, low-latency performance. It’s ideal for businesses with cloud-based operations or heavy data usage.
- Leased Line: BTnet is our dedicated, symmetrical connection with guaranteed speeds and uptime. It’s best for large enterprises or mission-critical operations.
Site survey
For more complex installations – especially leased lines or FTTP – a site survey is often necessary. During this visit, an engineer will:
- Assess the building’s infrastructure and access points.
- Identify the best route for cabling and equipment placement.
- Check for any civil engineering work required (for example, digging to lay fibre).
- Evaluate power supply and ventilation for network equipment.
Placing your order and scheduling installation
Once the broadband type is selected and the site survey (if needed) is complete, we’ll:
- Finalise your order and confirm service availability.
- Provide a timeline for installation.
- Coordinate with third parties if needed.
Engineer visit and installation
On installation day, a certified engineer will:
- Install or activate the broadband line.
- Run internal cabling to your network cabinet or router location.
- Install wall sockets, patch panels, or termination boxes.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Equipment configuration
Once the physical set up is complete, the engineer or your IT team will configure:
- Routers and modems: Set up with correct IP addressing, DNS, and routing protocols.
- Firewalls: Configured for security policies, VPN access, and traffic filtering.
- Switches and access points: Optimised for performance and coverage.
Testing and troubleshooting
Before going live, thorough testing is essential. Make sure you run speed tests to verify our Stay Fast Guarantee for your package. You’ll also want to check internal network connectivity and firewalls. Run tests from multiple devices and locations within the office to ensure consistent performance.
Staff set up and go-live
After thorough and successful testing, the connection is activated for full use. This stage involves connecting staff devices, setting up guest Wi-Fi (included in all our broadband packages), and ensuring that your cloud tools are functioning properly.
Ongoing support and maintenance
We provide round-the-clock support from our UK-based helpdesk in case you ever need it. Our support team proactively monitors for outages and other performance issues.
Installing business broadband helps your organisation get fast, reliable internet tailored to your needs. By understanding the process – from choosing the right type to getting support – you’re setting your business up for smoother operations and future growth.
