Using BT Call Barring and BT Call Barring codes

Call Barring is a handy feature that puts you in control of the calls you make and take. You can choose BT Call Barring from our BT Business calling features when you join us or add Call Barring any time by contacting us.

Call Barring on incoming calls stops your phone receiving any call. You can also use Call Barring on outgoing calls to stop types of calls being made from your phone.

For BT Call Barring to work, you'll need to make sure your phone is set to tone dialling. Then follow the steps to use Call Barring on your phone.

How do I use Call Barring on incoming calls?

To set up Call Barring on incoming calls, dial *261#

Setting up incoming Call Barring will stop your phone from receiving any calls. When you've set it up, you'll hear a message confirming Call Barring is active.

To check if Call Barring on incoming calls is active, dial *#261#

To cancel Call Barring on incoming calls, dial #261#

How do I set up Call Barring on outgoing calls?

You’ll just need to dial the number for the types of calls you want to block being made from your phone.

  • Dial *341# to block almost all outgoing calls, including BT Answer 1571 and Call minder.
  • Dial *342# to block national calls, international calls, and calls to mobiles.
  • Dial *343# to block international calls.
  • Dial *344# to block all operator calls, BT Text (SMS text messages) and BT Text Direct 18001 and 18002.
  • Dial *345# to block calls to numbers with * or # in them (includes some calling features but allows you to cancel this option).
  • Dial *347# to block calls to premium rate numbers.

When you've set up Call Barring on outgoing calls, you'll hear a message confirming your chosen Call Barring is active.

To check if Call Barring on outgoing calls is active, dial *#34#

Just so you know:

  • For customers on certain exchanges, using 2 or 3 also bars premium rate services. After selecting this option, if you find that calls to premium rate services are barred and you do not want them to be, please call 0800 800 152.
  • Calls to messaging services using 1571 can be barred using *341# This is because calling 1571 may lead to a chargeable call. Calls can be made via an operator unless they unless barred using *344#
  • *345# restricts your ability to access your Call Barring and other network services, for example, 1471.

How do I switch off Call Barring on outgoing calls?

To switch off Call Barring on outgoing calls, you'll need your four-digit Call Barring PIN.

Can't remember your PIN? Contact us so we can give you a new Call Barring PIN to use.

When you have your Call Barring PIN, you'll need to include it in the number you call. For example, if your PIN was 1234, you would need to dial 341* 1234 # if you wanted to stop calls to premium numbers being blocked.

Here are the numbers to call to stop Call Barring on outgoing calls, just replace PIN with your own Call Barring PIN:

  • Dial *341* PIN # to stop almost all outgoing calls, including BT Answer 1571 and Call minder being blocked.
  • Dial *342* PIN # to stop national calls, international calls, and calls to mobiles being blocked.
  • Dial *343* PIN # to stop international calls being blocked.
  • Dial *344* PIN # to stop all operator calls, BT Text (SMS text messages) and BT Text Direct 18001 and 18002 being blocked.
  • Dial *345* PIN # to stop numbers with * or # in them being blocked.
  • Dial *347* PIN # to stop calls to premium rate numbers being blocked.

In some BT exchanges, the Call Barring service locks after three failed attempts. If you think this has happened, please contact us.

Will Call Barring stop individual numbers from calling me?

Call Barring on incoming calls blocks ALL numbers from calling your phone. Our Choose to Refuse service lets you to stop up to ten numbers from calling you.

Will Call Barring work if I make calls through a different provider?

No. Call Barring is a BT service that only works on a BT phone line.
