BT Local Business: SME Digital Solutions Ltd
SME Digital Solutions Ltd
Thomas Platt is excited. ‘Telecoms is a fast-paced, evolving market, an exciting business to be involved in. Especially when the solutions we sell make a real difference to a customer’s business’, he says.
After a career in BT dealing with phone systems, IT, data solutions, calls, lines and mobiles, Thomas set up SME Digital Solutions in 2002, along with another ex-BT staffer, Roy McPhail. They were joined a couple of years later by Ann Platt, after 21 years in financial services working as an Independent Financial Advisor.
‘We provide specialist advice in switch and phone systems, data and IT, mobile, calls and lines, and the use of ICT in the Education sector’, explained Roy.
Based in Preston, the team has excellent road, rail, and air links to the North West and Cumbria. Customers are also welcome to visit the Customer Showcase at the company’s flagship office, where they can see the wide range of BT products and services that can help boost their business.
‘Your business matters to us – no two customers are the same but everyone wants to make better use of technology. We offer solutions that help give you a competitive edge, that help increase your profit, and that can enhance your customers’ experience’.

Businesses we've helped
Cumbria Health On Call Ltd provides an out-of-hours, doctors-on-call service across Cumbria. So when their mobile coverage kept crashing due to poor 3G, there was no time to waste in finding an appropriate solution.
We gave them 23 voice mobile connections and 16 data SIMs. For the first time, they’re experiencing 4G signal on their data SIM, which means no crashing. Now they can diagnose and update patient records effectively.
North West, Midlands, and South East
Tauheedul Education Trust (TET) is a not-for-profit, multi-academy trust.
Due to expansion and various geographic challenges, the Trust was having problems holding regular – and cost/time-effective – meetings with the board and head teachers (who are all over the country).
We supplied a SMART video conferencing solution, which has had a major impact in terms of reducing travel time and increasing efficiency. People are able to attend meetings quickly, cheaply, and without losing a day travelling.
