What is On-site expert setup?
On-site expert setup is ideal if you want a fully managed setup experience for your new Digital Voice for Business service.
A dedicated engineer will visit your premises at your chosen appointment time to get your new service up and running. They’ll work with you to understand your business needs, connect your devices, configure your settings, and make sure everything is working as expected before they leave.
It takes the hassle out of setting up your new phone system, so you can be confident everything’s ready to use from day one.
Is the On-site expert setup service right for my business?
On-site expert setup is great if:
- Your business has more complex requirements.
- Multiple devices need to be set up.
- You’d prefer a BT expert to handle the setup on site.
- You’re moving from an existing phone system.
- You need help configuring your settings.
How much does it cost?
The cost will depend on the size of your requirements and the level of installation support required.

Note: depending on your requirements, there will either be a single charge or multiple charges that appear on your first bill for this service.
On-site expert setup – step-by-step guide
If you opt for On-site expert setup, here’s what you need to do and what to expect during your appointment.
What you need to do
- If you’re ordering Digital Voice for Business online, choose On-site expert setup at checkout. If you’re ordering over the phone, let the sales adviser know this is your preferred setup option.
- Choose an appointment date and time that works for you. It’s very important you are available at this time, as the engineer will need letting in to set up your new service. If you miss the appointment, you'll be charged an abortive visit charge.
- You’ll receive BT emails to confirm your order details and engineer appointment. Please read these. You’ll also receive a link to a form where you can fill in some basic details before your appointment. This will help us prepare for your setup appointment and make the most of our time on site.
- You’ll also receive reminder emails with the date and time of the appointment – so when you need to be available. If you need to change the appointment, follow the instructions on the email so we can rearrange it.
- On the day of your appointment, a BT engineer will visit your premises to set up and configure your new Digital Voice for Business service. They will test the service, answer any questions and make sure you're ready to get started.
What the engineer will do during your appointment
On your appointment day, your engineer can help with a range of setup and installation activities, such as:
- Setup and configuration of users and phone numbers.
- Setting up calling features such as hunt groups, auto attendants and voicemail.
- Installation and connection of supported phones and devices.
- Service testing and quality checks.
- Giving you information on how to manage your service, for example using BT Business My Account or the Digital Voice for Business portal.
The exact activities will depend on your business requirements.
The BT expert may also need access to your computer to help demonstrate how you access the Digital Voice for Business portal, and any other features you may have chosen such as Call Analytics, CRM integration or Call Recording.
Do I need to be on site during the appointment?
Yes – the appointment can only take place if someone from your business is there when the engineer arrives.
We recommend that a person who’s familiar with your business requirements is available during the visit. This will help the engineer get everything set up the way you want and be able to answer any questions while they’re there.
Note: If the person ordering Digital Voice for Business isn’t the person who will be there on the appointment day, they can:
- Add them as an additional contact when ordering online.
- Let the sales adviser know if ordering on the phone.
What happens after the setup’s taken place?
Before leaving, the engineer will test the service with you and confirm that everything is working as expected.
If you need to make changes after the On-site setup appointment, you'll be able to manage many aspects of your service through the Digital Voice for Business portal. Our support team is also available if you need more help.
