Getting and assigning new phone numbers from BT in Operator Connect

To complete the tasks in this article, you’ll need to be an administrator. Learn more about Teams administrator permissions.

This guide can help you to request additional phone numbers and assign them to users.

To get and assign new numbers you will need access to My Account (for UK customers) and the Customer Hub (for international customers) and the Teams Admin Centre.

Please note before you start, you must have enabled BT as your provider and the correct licensing in place. If you haven’t done this already, see Enabling BT as your Operator Connect provider and Prerequisites and licensing.

Step 1: Request new numbers

You can request new numbers in My Account. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to:
  2. Under the Add new users tab, select Request to Add New Users.
  3. Select the requested countries, package, number of users/DDIs, and select Number porting required if you require numbers to be ported.
  4. Select Next Step.
  5. Input contact details if they differ from what is expected, making sure to add your contact number.
  6. Select Submit Enquiry.

Your BT Account Manager will then reach out to you.

Step 2: Wait for Allocation

BT will now allocate the numbers and push them into your Microsoft Teams Operator Connect platform.

In your Teams Admin Centre, you can monitor allocation status under Number Management or Inventory/Allocated Numbers.

When your numbers are ready, they will show as Active.

Step 3: Confirm your numbers are in the Teams Admin Centre

  1. Log in to the Teams Admin Centre.
  2. Under Voice, select Phone Numbers. Your new numbers should appear here.

If numbers don’t appear in the Teams Admin Centre, contact our support team.

Step 4: Assign a number to a user

Finally:

  1. Log in to the Teams Admin Centre.
  2. Under Users, select Manage Users.
  3. Select the user you want to assign a number to.
  4. Under Phone Number, choose the new BT number.
  5. Under Phone Number Type, set it to Operator Connect.
  6. Select Save.

You should now have a working Microsoft Teams Operator Connect number.
