How do I set up, change or cancel my Direct Debit?

Let your bills look after themselves when you pay by Direct Debit from your UK bank or building society. As long as funds are in your account it's the easiest way to avoid late-payment charges.

It's fast, easy, and secure to set up, change, or cancel your Direct Debit online.

Setting up a Direct Debit from your own bank account

To set up a monthly or quarterly Direct Debit from your bank account you just need your bank account number, and sort code. Here's what to do:

  1. In My Account go to Manage Direct Debit
  2. Set up Direct Debit should already be selected, select it if not.
  3. Choose the account or accounts you're setting up a Direct Debit for and select Next.
  4. Enter your bank or building society account details.
  5. Click Confirm and you're done.

We'll action your instructions and your Direct Debit will start when your next bill is produced. Each time we issue you a bill, we’ll take your Direct Debit payment within seven days.

How do I set up a Direct Debit from my joint bank account?

To set up a Direct Debit from a bank account you hold with other people:

  1. In My Account go to Manage Direct Debit
  2. Set up Direct Debit should already be selected, select it if not.
  3. Choose the billing account or accounts you're setting up a Direct Debit for.
  4. Select Non-sole signatory and then Next.
  5. Check the address shown for each billing account is correct, then choose Confirm.
  6. For each billing account you’ve selected, we’ll post you a Direct Debit instruction. Get all holders of the joint account to sign and return this to us.

Once these instructions are returned, we'll action them. Your Direct Debit will start when your next bill is produced. Each time we issue you a bill, we’ll take your Direct Debit payment within seven days.

How do I change a Direct Debit paid from my own business bank account?

Here's how to change a Direct Debit from your own business bank account:

  1. In My Account go to Manage Direct Debit
  2. Select Edit Direct Debit.
  3. Choose the account or accounts you want to change your Direct Debit for and click Next.
  4. Change the details for your bank or building society account.
  5. Choose Confirm and you're done.

We'll action the changes you've made.

How do I change a Direct Debit paid from my joint bank account?

Here's how to change a Direct Debit from a bank account you hold with other people:

  1. In My Account go to Manage Direct Debit
  2. Select Edit Direct Debit.
  3. Choose the billing account or accounts you want to change your Direct Debit for.

Here's how to cancel a Direct Debit:

  1. In My Account go to Manage Direct Debit
  2. Select Cancel Direct Debit.
  3. Choose the account or accounts you want to cancel your Direct Debit for and click Next.
  4. Review the account or accounts you're about to cancel your Direct Debit for.
  5. To proceed select Cancel Direct Debit.

We’ll confirm on-screen that you’ve cancelled your Direct Debit. If you’ve a balance to pay, we’ll show you how much.
