BT SIP (Session Internet Protocol) Trunking voice services will be launched in early 2012 and will work over networking services like BTnet, and our phone systems.

What is SIP Trunking?

SIP enables you run numerous communications applications over your IP network or Broadband line - for example: VoIP. In other words you can make voice calls over the Internet

Why would businesses be interested in SIP Trunking?

SIP can offer:

  • Savings on calls compared to your standard telephone bills

    Your standard phone line is replaced by the IP network. VoIP call rates are usually lower than traditional equivalents

  • Flexibility in how you can use your numbers

    With SIP you can move existing or have new numbers outside of your local exchange area

  • Lower-cost business continuity options

    You could route your VoIP calls over your existing IP network saving money on costly call-forwarding

What should businesses be wary of with SIP?

As with any new services, each business should consider carefully with us whether now's the right time to take up new technology. For example, SIP Voice services:

  • will offer significant cost-savings if you are already paying for the bandwidth over which it will run, if you have to upgrade your bandwidth this may outweigh the savings
  • can offer as good a quality voice as traditional voice services but only if configured properly, by service providers who have already tested that all the elements work together properly
  • runs over your business network, so you will need to ensure your firewall is configured correctly to allow the calls in, but keep the nasties out
  • performance is largely dependent on your network performance and MPLS or un-contended IP Connections, such as BTnet, over Broadband it may be best used as a cost-effective secondary line". eg. Terms and prices

BTnet standard terms and conditions apply. All prices exclude VAT and are intended for guidance only. To find out about our terms, call our sales team on 0800 707 6315.

Connecting BTnet Leased Line

Free connection is only available on 3 or 5-year contracts. It applies to the BTnet standard installation charge including the circuit connection charge and router, but depends on suitable spare line equipment being available at your site.

If suitable spare line equipment isn't available, the circuit planners will advise what, if any, additional duct or fibre is needed to deliver the service to your site.

All orders depend on our survey. If there are going to be any additional charges we will tell you. If you don't agree to them, you can cancel the order.

Leased line special offers

All offers are available to customers ordering brand new bearers, not existing customers already on that bearer. Offers are open to:

1. brand new BTnet customers

2. existing customer who are:

  • upgrading from existing speed bearer to the next size bearer up (e.g. existing 2M bearer customer upgrades to 10M bearer or existing 10M bearer customer upgrades to 100M bearer)
  • still within contract and upgrading to pay at least 15% more on annual rental. If 15% additional rental clause not satisfied, customers have option of migrating at standard pricing i.e. non special offer pricing rental out of the minimum 12-month term on their contracts
