How do I set up Music on Hold with an external audio device?

The following settings are only to get a PLID number for the MOH port, so it's a dummy setup for the PLID.

To set up Music on Hold with an external audio device follow the steps below:

  1. Login to your system and have your audio device ready with .WAV (ALAW 8 bit MONO) audio files loaded on the device.

Please note that not all devices may work, if the first device fails with volume set to full, try another.

  2. With the View from Category option open, go to the Trunks - Analog - E and M - E and M Trunk Circuit Descriptors form and click Add.

  3. Input the following details & click Save:

    Number - Give a dummy Number i.e. 4
    Incoming Start Type - Immediate
    Outgoing Start Type - Immediate
    Transmission Facility - 2 Wire
    2 Wire Balance Network Setting - 600

  4. Go to the Trunks - Analog - E and M -  E and M Trunks form (make a note of the PLID number 5 1 3 1) and click Change.

  5. Input the following details & click Save:

Trunk No - Use a No not in use i.e. 666
    Trunk Ser No - 1
Circuit Descriptor No - 4 (the number u gave in step 3)
    InterConnect No - 1

  6. Go to the System Properties - System Feature Settings - System Access Points form and click Change.

  7. Input the following details & click Save:

    Music Source - External
Music Source Port - Location ID 5 1 3 1 (PLID No notes in step 4)

  8. Go to the System Properties - System Feature Settings - System Options form and click Change.

  9. Find Music on Hold and change to Yes.

  10. Now give it a try. If it's not working try another audio device and check the volume. If you're still having problems, give us a call by clicking Contact Us to the right of this page.
