Setting the time and date on Avaya IP Office System Phone

How to set the time and date using a System Phone

You can change the time and date by using an IP Office System Phone if:

  • SNTP (automatically updating system time over your network) isn’t being used.
  • The System Phone Rights of that extension is set to 2.

Now the extension user can set the time and date:

  1. Press the Feature key.
  2. Press the downward arrow until you see Phone User on the display and press the select button.
  3. Press the downward arrow until you see System Admin on the display and press the select button.
  4. Press the downward arrow until you see Time on the display and press select or OK.
  5. Enter the correct time on the keypad (24 hour clock) using the * key for the colon and press the Done soft key.

If the correct time is 14:10 then enter the following on the keypad 14*10.
  6. Press the downward arrow until you see Date on the display and press the select button.
  7. Enter the correct date on the keypad (date format is dd/mm/yy) using the * key as the separator between each section and press the Done soft key.

If the correct date is 25/07/11 then enter the following on the keypad 25*07*11.
  8. Press the Back and Exit soft keys to exit from programming.

Setting up IP Office so that time can be updated from a System Phone:

  1. Open IP Office Manager on your PC.
  2. Click on System and then System tab.
  3. Set Time Setting Config Source = None.
  4. Click on User. Then click the User who wants to change the time and date.
  5. Click on the User tab and select the following:

System Phone Rights = Change from None to Level 2
  6. Click OK.
  7. Save and Merge.

How to set the time and date using SNTP

If Internet access is available through your IP Office, you can set the time using SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol). Most IP Office systems are set to use SNTP and British Summer Time, so should then automatically update for UK clock changes.

To set the time and date:

  1. Click on System and then System tab.
  2. Enter the following settings:

Time Setting Config Source = Select SNTP
    Time Server Address = time.lon.bt.com

Click Ok but do not Save and Merge as you need to create the IP Route for Internet access.
  3. Right click over IP Route and select New (create a default gateway on your IP Office to have Internet access).

    IP address = 0.0.0.0
    Subnet mask = 0.0.0.0
Default gateway = IP address of the Internet router
Destination drop down = LAN 1
Metric count (next hop router count) = 1
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Save and Merge.
