Ever missed an important call or text at home because you’ve lost mobile reception? Well, Wi-Fi Calling uses your Wi-Fi connection to keep you connected even when you’ve no mobile reception.
Who can use it?
Wi-Fi Calling works on any Apple device from iPhone 5s onwards, and certain Android handsets available from us. If you’ve got a BT SIM Only plan and an iPhone 5s or later, you can also use Wi-Fi Calling.
How do I set up Wi-Fi calling?
Easy, just connect your phone to your Wi-Fi network, ensure you’ve got the latest software installed and switch on Wi-Fi Calling in your settings. Each phone has a slightly different process:
Apple
Samsung
Sony
Huawei
What does it cost to use Wi-Fi calling?
There’s no change to your regular bill for using Wi-Fi Calling. Calls and texts come out of your monthly allowance. If you exceed these, you’ll be charged at standard rates. You won't see calls made using Wi-Fi Calling on your bill.
Although these calls and texts start on a broadband connection, they're just using it to get onto the mobile network. The mobile network still carries the call and makes it possible.
Dialling 999 on Wi-Fi Calling
You can call the emergency services on Wi-Fi Calling, but they can't identify your location. Use a fixed-line phone to dial 999 and only use Wi-Fi Calling as a last resort.
