Roam Like At Home

What is Roam Like At Home?

Roam Like At Home means that you'll be charged in the same way, and at the same rate, for using your mobile device in Europe (our Europe Zone), as you would be for using it at home.

This means that if you have allowances of minutes, texts and data, you can use them within our Europe Zone without paying extra roaming charges.

If you don't have allowances, or you have exhausted them, you will be charged at the same out of bundle rate as you would be if you were at home.

To check your roaming is switched on, go to your settings on bt.com/mymobile.

Which countries are included in Roam Like At Home?

You can benefit from Roam Like At Home when roaming in our Europe Zone which includes the following countries:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus (South), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Irish Republic, Isle of Man, Italy, Vatican City, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Azores, Canary Islands, Ceuta/Melilla, French Guiana, French Reunion Islands, Guadeloupe, Madeira, Martinique, St Barthelme, St Martin.

Can I use all my data allowance abroad in Europe?

Yes, from 15 June 2017 you can use your data allowance in any Europe Zone country. However, we do have a fair use policy:

  • If your plan gives you between 15GB and 32GB of data each month, a surcharge may be applied if you use more than 15GB in one billing cycle when roaming in our Europe Zone countries.
  • If your plan gives you over 32GB of data each month then a surcharge may be applied if you use more than 25GB in one billing cycle when roaming in our Europe Zone countries.

You can find out more about the surcharge in the BT Price List at:
    (Section 10b, Part 6, sub-part 3).

Some things aren't included in your Roam Like At Home benefit

These include any calls or texts sent from the UK and calls or texts from a Europe Zone country to a country outside the Europe Zone (excluding UK) for example calls from France to the USA. These types of calls are charged at a specific rate different to that which you would be charged if you were calling from the UK. See the BT Price List for details.
(Section 10b, Part 6, sub-part 2)

Can I roam like at home if I live abroad?

Roam Like At Home is only available if you live or are usually based in the UK and you mainly use your BT Mobile in the UK. If we think that over a period of at least 4 months, you've been living or mainly using your BT Mobile in a roam like at home country, not the UK, we may ask you to explain the reasons for this and you might need to pay a surcharge. Details of our fair use policy can be found in your BT Business Mobile terms and conditions.

Our Fair Use Policy

Roam Like At Home is for occasional roaming, whilst on holiday or short business trips - it's not meant to be used if you live or work mainly in another county. So under our fair use policy, we can apply a surcharge if you use your phone mainly for roaming, spend more time abroad than in the UK or exceed any data allowances that you have been given. Full details of our fair use policy can be found in your BT Business Mobile terms and conditions, and in our BT Price List at:

(Section 10b, Part 6, sub-part 3).

How can I stop my device from inadvertent roaming?

There are some areas in the UK where it's possible to inadvertently roam onto a non-UK network and so run up roaming charges.

For instance, some areas along the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and around the south east coast of England are particularly close to non-UK network areas.

How can I protect myself from inadvertent roaming?

There are a couple of ways you can reduce the risk:

  • If you live in Northern Ireland, we've got a voice tariff that takes border regions into account. We've also got some data roaming bundles that may help. Contact our sales team on 0800 800 152 to find out more.
  • You may be able to turn off, or change, the roaming settings on your device - have a look at your user guide.
