4G Calling

Find out all you need to know about 4G Calling below:

4G Calling - Information?

Exclusively for BT Business customers

With 4G Calling, when you make or take a call, your compatible BT device will stay on 4G. That means you can use data at 4G speeds even when you're on a call. Sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how few mobile providers will let you do this.

Stay Superfast

Your internet won’t slow down when you’re on a call. Using Google Maps on hands-free? Your maps will stay superfast.

Seamless switching

If you’re using Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling helps make the switch to our mobile network as your calls can now seamlessly handover between wi-fi and 4G.

Clearer calls

4G Calling means your calls now go over the 4G network, which makes them crystal clear between compatible phones.

Call in more places

We’re covering the UK with 4G. Combine that with 4G Calling on your compatible BT Business device, and it means you’ll be able to make calls in places you couldn’t before. Check coverage

No extra costs - just stick to your limits

4G Calling is an inclusive feature of our 4G voice plan for compatible BT Business devices. Calls and texts come out of your monthly allowances as normal and anything out of allowance is charged at standard rates.

How to make a call

Just dial or text as normal.

Calling other networks

You can still call anyone, anywhere like you do now.

Roaming

4G Calling won’t work while you're roaming. Don’t worry - you'll still be able to make calls over 3G and 2G as normal.

More information can be found on our Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling page.

4G Calling - What you’ll pay

Costs and data allowances

There's no additional cost for the 4G Calling service - it's an inclusive feature of our 4G voice plan for compatible BT Business devices.

Calls and texts come out of your monthly allowances as normal and anything out of allowance is charged at standard rates.

So as long as you stick to your limits, you won’t pay a penny extra to use this exciting new service.

4G Calling - Getting it and setting it up

4G Calling is available to BT Business customers with a 4G or 5G mobile plan.

If you’re in an area with BT 4G coverage, compatible BT Business devices will get 4G Calling automatically. You don’t even need to switch it on. It’s hassle-free to enjoy the extra benefits of 4G Calling.

All you’ll need is the latest software, which you can update by following these steps:

Apple iOS:

Settings > General > Software Update

Android:

Settings > About Device > Software Update

(the exact software update menu option may be a little different depending on the type of phone)

However, BT One Phone customers are not able to use 4G Calling.

4G Calling - How to tell if it’s a 4G Call

It’s no more complex than how you see if your call is 2G or 3G today:

  • First, take a look at the notification/status bar
  • If you see 4G, it’s likely your call will go over 4G when you dial the number
  • If you still see 4G while you’re talking and when you finish, you've made a 4G Call.

Phone not set up for 4G Calling? If you’re on 4G before dialling the number, your device will use 2G or 3G automatically to complete your call, and move back to 4G when the call ends.
