Setting up Alternate numbers on BT Cloud Voice
How does Alternate numbers work?
It’s great for businesses that operate in different geographical locations, but want the ease of answering one central, primary number.
You can provide your User or Site feature with up to ten other numbers (eleven in total) with a range of area codes. So, to customers it looks like they’re calling a local number, but all the calls are redirected to one line.
For example, you can have three phone numbers you advertise but these three numbers only route into one phone.
How to set up Alternate numbers?
If your main number is on a User:
- Sign in to the BT Business Cloud Voice Portal.
- From the dashboard select Users (across the top).
- Search for the user and click the settings icon.
- Select Features on the left.
- In the Alternate numbers tile, click the settings icon.
- Click Add number.
- From the drop-down menu, select the number you wish to add to this user and add an extension number.
- You can select a different ring pattern to make managing calls easier - it may be worth saving this, then testing to see how each pattern sounds on your handset.
- Click Save.
If your main number is on a Hunt group:
- Please note, you’ll need the Hunt group plus feature for this.
- Sign in to the BT Business Cloud Voice Portal.
- From the dashboard select your Site.
- Select Features on the left.
- In the Hunt group tile click the settings icon.
- Select your hunt group by clicking its name.
- Within the hunt group on the left select features.
- In the Alternate numbers tile click the settings icon.
- Click Add number.
- From the drop-down menu, select the number you wish to add to this hunt group and add an extension number.
- You can select a different ring pattern to make managing calls easier - it may be worth saving this, then testing to see how each pattern sounds on your handset.
- Click Save.
If your main number is on an Auto Attendant:
- Please note you’ll need the Auto Attendant plus feature for this.
- Sign in to the BT Business Cloud Voice Portal.
- From the dashboard select your Site.
- Select Features on the left.
- In the Auto Attendant tile click the settings icon.
- Select your Auto Attendant by clicking its name.
- Within the Auto Attendant on the left select features.
- In the Alternate numbers tile click the settings icon.
- Click Add number.
- From the drop-down menu, select the number you wish to add to this Auto Attendant and add an extension number.
- You can select a different ring pattern to make managing calls easier - it may be worth saving this, then testing to see how each pattern sounds on your handset.
- Click Save.
If your main number is on a Call centre:
- Please note you will need the Call centre plus feature for this.
- Sign in to the BT Business Cloud Voice Portal.
- From the dashboard select your Site.
- Select Features on the left.
- In the Call centre tile click the settings icon.
- Select your Call centre by clicking its name.
- Within the Call centre on the left select features.
- In the Alternate numbers tile click the settings icon.
- Click Add number.
- From the drop-down menu, select the number you wish to add to this Call centre and add an extension number.
- You can select a different ring pattern to make managing calls easier - it may be worth saving this, then testing to see how each pattern sounds on your handset.
- Click Save.
This feature will only work for incoming calls. It will not allow you to use all these numbers for outgoing calls.
