How to add or remove extensions from ringing on incoming calls
For information on programming which extension(s) should ring or not ring for incoming calls go to page 53 & 54 of the BT Versatility Owner’s Manual below.
Two ringing patterns can be set, they’re referred to as Day Service and Night Service.
Incoming calls programmed to ring a group/extension can be diverted to ring a different group/extension/voicemail/external number*. To do this do a Search Text on the word divert in the manual below, to see the various options available.
*External Divert might be restricted on the system or unavailable because of the line configuration.

Programming calls to ring on another phone when busy
There are two different ways to do this depending on your particular requirements and how the system is programmed.
- Option 1: Set a divert on busy (DoB) on the main group/extension to ring the group or extension you want to ring when you’re busy.
- Option 2: Create a Linear hunt group with the extensions you wish to ring in order, set the main extension as the first in the group and so on.
Calls will ring the first extension in the group if it’s free. If the first extension is busy or the calls not answered before the hunt group divert time the call will ring the 2nd extension and so on until all the extensions in the group have been rung.
See page 23 of the BT Versatility Owners Manual for more details on Incoming Calls handling options.

Night Service on BT Versatility
The Manual Night Service feature lets you turn Night Service on or off manually.
When you turn Night Service on, the Night Service ringing and Class of Service come into operation.
To Night Service turn on:
- From Extension 20 select Night Service.
I’m still receiving incoming calls when I shouldn’t
Have you diverted all incoming calls to another phone but you’re still receiving them?
The divert facility will only divert calls that call your extension and not calls that call an extension group.
The call may be programmed to ring an extension group and not an individual extension.
Calls to an extension group can be diverted using the group divert facility.

Why is my BT Versatility system answering machine not answering calls to DDI numbers?
The system answering machine will only answer calls that are calling the number programmed as the directory number and not numbers programmed as DDI/MSN numbers. Calls to the number programmed as the directory number follow the incoming ringing programme for the line the call is coming in on, the system answering machine will only answer these calls.
- Calls to numbers programmed as DDI numbers follow the DDI number programming, there is no option for these to be answered by the system answering machine.
- Calls to DDI numbers can be programmed to be answered by group or extension mailboxes by using the group or extension divert to mailbox feature.

There should be no duplication of numbers in the Directory and DDI/MSN programming. Numbers should only be programmed once, if a number is programmed as a Directory number it must not be programmed in the DDI/MSN field.
