Joining BT Mobile and want to keep your existing mobile number? Here’s everything you need to know.
How do I transfer my existing number to BT?
Bringing your number over from another mobile supplier (sometimes called porting) is quick and easy. You’ll need a PAC/STAC code from your old provider before you contact our team.
You can get a PAC/STAC code here.
Useful things to know when transferring your number
- Once we enter your PAC/STAC code into our systems, we can't cancel the process. If you decide to stay with your current service provider, you'll need to port in, wait a day and then request a PAC/STAC code from us to leave.
- If you port out, unless you’re cancelling a new connection under one of our returns policies, or completing a renumber request, you may be charged a minimum term fee.
- Your next bill will have pro-rata charges for monthly line rental and any add-ons or allowance you have.
- If a number transfer is set up before 5:30pm the process will complete the following working day. If it’s after 5:30pm it will complete two working days later.
- If a number transfer is arranged on a Friday, the earliest day it will take place is Tuesday.
- If a STAC code is provided to us, your service provider won't be asked to cancel your service with them until your new BT SIM connects to our network.
- Transfers takes place between 05:00 and 00:00 on the given day and you may have a slight loss of service on this day.
- If you’re abroad using Roaming when the transfer happens, you may experience some issues.
- Some older devices don't automatically store your contacts. Make sure you copy your phonebook from your old SIM card to your new one before the transfer, otherwise you'll lose the data.
- To use the device supplied by your current service provider on our network, you'll need to make sure your device is unlocked – check with your current service provider.
- If you’ve set up voicemail before the transfer, you won't need to set it up again.
- If you use the Picture Messaging service, you'll need to send a message after the number transfer before you can receive any new messages.
