Domain transfer after switching to BT from another ISP

Note: Please back up your email and website before starting your transfer.

Can I use my current domain name?

Yes, you can use your current domain name. You can either transfer your domain name to us or you can keep it with your current domain supplier.

We do recommend that all the services are with just one service provider so as to ensure full end to end support. If, however, you wish to keep your domain with it’s current supplier, we require that you adhere to our security policy and log that domain name with us prior to it being used on our platform.

When will my domain name be activated?

A domain full name transfer should take less than 3 days, however depending on the contract you have with your current service provider it could take longer.

You will need to contact your current domain supplier as part of the domain transfer.

Confirmation of a domain name transfer will be sent via email to your BTConnect primary email address. Once you have this confirmation you will need to log into the My Account area and recreate your domain related email addresses.

Why should I transfer my domain name?

We recommend that you transfer all internet services across in order to receive full end to end customer service. For instance, if one area of your broadband should go down then this could affect others. Therefore for ease we recommend you have all services with one ISP.

How do I order a new domain name?

We offer a full domain search and registration service via the My Account area of the business portal. You will be given a portal username and password when you complete your broadband order, you can use these details to log into the My Account area and order your domain after 24hrs (i.e. you do not have to wait for your broadband line to be activated) Once the order has been placed for broadband you can immediately begin setting up the domain name.
