Free domain vs purchased domain options

Domains are listed as free or purchased in the BT Domains Centre.

Any domain listed as a free domain will either be tied to the free domain entitlement as part of a BT web hosting pack or alternatively historically charged £2.99 per month (excluding VAT) on a BT bill.

BT’s Domain Name Team can identify if the domains status as either free or purchased domain needs to be updated once an account audit is done.

For example, if a BT web hosting pack on the account has stopped, or it’s no longer being charged £2.99 per month (excluding VAT), the domain needs to be updated from a free domain to a purchased one.

Renewing free domains and purchased domains

Free domains are automatically renewed by our systems for free for one year when it’s time for renewal, and if the Auto Renew can’t be set to Off.

To cancel the auto renewal feature of renew a free domain that has expired just contact BT’s Domain Name Team

Purchased domains are automatically renewed by our systems if the Auto Renew status is set to On and an active debit or credit card is held on record.
