My mobile data isn't working

If you're having problems connecting to the internet using mobile data, try these quick fixes first:

  • Go to Settings and make sure mobile data is switched on
  • If you have a 4G device, go to Settings and check 4G is switched on
  • Check your Network mode is set to automatic
  • Try switching your phone off and back on

If these haven’t put things right for you, here are more things you can try to get mobile data working:

Check your mobile coverage

Some areas have a stronger mobile signal than others – which can affect how well your mobile data works. Use our mobile coverage checker to find out the strength of mobile coverage anywhere in the UK.

If you’re in an area which has a weak mobile signal, you may have problems connecting to the internet using mobile data unfortunately.

Reset your network settings

Simply follow the steps for your device. Note that resetting your network settings will mean you lose your saved wi-fi passwords, VPNs, APNSs and saved Bluetooth devices.

Reset your network settings on Apple devices

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Scroll to and select Reset
  4. Tap Reset network settings

Reset your network settings on Samsung devices

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap General management, System or Back up and Reset
  3. Tap Reset or Reset Wi-FiMobile and Bluetooth or Advanced
  4. Tap Reset network settings or Reset options
  5. Tap Reset Settings or Network Setting Reset
  6. Enter your PIN, password, fingerprint, or pattern and tap Reset Settings again to confirm

Update your software or check your data

If you're still having problems connecting to the internet using mobile data, make sure you’ve updated your device with the latest software.

You may also have reached your data allowance limit, which will stop you from using more mobile data. We’ll text you if you reach your limit. Your allowance will start again on your bill date or you can speak to us to discuss a data add-on to get you connected again.

Connect using wi-fi instead of mobile data

Some wi-fi networks will be free to use and unlocked, others will be marked as secure and require a password. Try these tips to connect to your device to wi-fi:

  • Activate wi-fi on your device's menu
  • Confirm you’re connected to the correct Access Point
  • Verify and re-enter the Password
  • Reset network settings (you’ll lose saved Wi-Fi passwords, VPNs, APNSs and saved Bluetooth device)
  • Switch the hub off and on again
  • Update your phone to the latest software
  • Check if your device works when connected to a different wi-fi network. If it does, the issue may be related to the network router or ISP and you should contact the internet provider.
