BT’s Head of Customer Insights and Futures took the conference through how technology is changing the way we work and collaborate.
One of Dr Nicola Millard’s insights was around how different generations work together, and how they have different expectations and ways of working. Over 50s, she said, love using email - whereas the younger generation prefer to make use of chat or instant messaging.
She also spoke about the “consumerization” of the workplace - and how employees are now expecting the sort of flexibility that frustrates the IT department. They want to bring their own devices, use their own apps and work from wherever is convenient, not tethered to a desk. The challenge for business is to not be “Dr No”, and instead figure out how to say “Yes”.
