Using BT Voicemail 1571

Accessing messages is simple

When there is a message waiting, you are notified instantly by either SMS or voice alert. Accessing messages is simple:

Dial 1571 - you'll be taken to straight to your mailbox

Whilst listening to your messages you can:

Press 2 to repeat the message

Press 3 to delete the message

Press 7 to save the message

Getting started with BT Voicemail 1571

It's free and easy to set up your voicemail. Just call 1571 and follow the prompts - this will automatically activate the service.

To listen to voicemail

Press 1571 and then 'send'. Whilst listening to your messages you can:

Press 1 to return to the main menu

Press 2 to repeat the message

Press 3 to delete the message

Press 4 to rewind the message by 8 seconds

Press 44 to go to the previous message

Press 5 to hear the caller's number

Press 55 to return the call

Press 6 to fast forward 8 seconds

Press 66 to go to the next message

Press 7 to save the message

Press 9 to get help

Personalise which calls you divert to voicemail

When you first activate the service, your voicemail has standard divert settings. Calls will be diverted to your voicemail when you don't answer the call, your mobile is switched off, you're on another call or are in areas of reduced coverage. To change the settings for diverting your calls, just press:

15710 then 'send', to turn off all diverts to your voicemail

15711 then 'send', to turn on the standard divert voicemail

15712 then 'send', to divert all calls straight to your voicemail

15713 then 'send', to turn off divert all your calls to voicemail. This then resets your diverts to the standard divert voicemail settings

Changing your message alert

When you receive a voicemail message, the service will alert you to it. You can be alerted by call or text message. To choose your alert:

Call 1571 and press 'send'

Press 1 for the main menu

Press 4 for mailbox settings

Press 3 for message notification options

Select your message alert option

Set up a personal greeting

You can personalise your voicemail by setting up your own voicemail greeting, which can be up to 60 seconds long. A recording of your voice is all it takes to reassure your customers and colleagues that they have made contact. It also encourages callers to leave a message, as they know they've reached the right person. Simply:

Call 1571 and press 'send'

Press 1 for the main menu

Press 33 and follow the voice prompts. You must press # to save your recorded message

Listen to your voicemail messages from another phone

Before you can do this you'll need to set up your voicemail security code. Just:

Call 1571 and press 'send'

Press 1 for the main menu

Press 42 to access the security settings

Press 2 to set your voicemail security code

Then to listen to your voicemail messages from another phone:

Call your mailbox number* then interrupt the greeting by pressing 9

You will hear a message asking you to key in your voicemail security code

Enter this code and you will be able to listen to your messages

* To find your mailbox number, go to the BT services menu on your mobile and select 'my voicemail no?' from the messaging menu.

Your mailbox can store up to 50 voicemail messages, each up to 3 minutes long.

New/unread messages are stored for up to 28 days

Read messages are stored for up to 3 days

Saved messages are stored for up to 7 days and can be resaved for a further 7 days if needed

Leave a voicemail message in another BT Mobile Voicemail user's mailbox

If you know it isn't possible to speak with a customer or colleague but need to make contact with them, you can go straight to their mailbox to leave a message. Just:

Call 1571 followed by their BT Mobile number, e.g. 157107818123456. This takes you straight to their voicemail where you can leave your message.

Accessing your voicemail from abroad

Voicemail is a useful tool when you're travelling abroad on business - you're likely to be on a tight schedule and could be in regular meetings - being able to let calls go through to voicemail ensures you can manage your time more effectively. It also means you can avoid international roaming charges that may apply when you receive calls while you're away - letting calls go to voicemail lets you control when and how you returned the messages.

To access voicemail while you're abroad you need to have your voicemail security code set up. To do this just:

Call 1571 and press 'send'

Press 1 for the main menu

Press 42 to access the security settings

Press 2 to set your voicemail security code

While you're abroad you'll be notified when you have new voicemail messages via a text message alert. To listen to your messages:

Call your mailbox number* which is included in your text notification in the international format, i.e. prefixed with +44 and without the leading 0

Press 9 when you hear the greeting

Enter your voicemail security code

* To find your mailbox number, go to the BT services menu on your mobile and select 'my voicemail no?' from the messaging menu.
