VOIP interview: We want your questions27 July 2005

Man pointing

We will shortly be conducting an interview with the General Manager for Broadband and VoIP in BT Business, Mick Hegarty. This follows our recent article about Voice over IP.

You have the opportunity to pose your questions to Mick about what impact VoiP will have on your business or any other aspect of the service.

The best questions from all your entries will be selected and Mick's answers will be published in this section in the next few weeks.

Before taking time to consider your question, here is some information to give you food for thought:

  • VOIP has been around for 10 years and despite all the hype, up-take of it in the business world is still fairly slow.
  • When VOIP was first talked about, many people expected free calls over the internet. Free or very low cost calls may be available for consumers, but the needs of businesses may be different when considering quality and reliability.
  • There is also much more to VoIP than 'free calls'. The growing interest for the technology, together with broadband and other IP networks, have contributed to the development of new applications that use the mix of voice and data on a single network. Those new applications try to better meet the growing needs of businesses around mobility, productivity and enhanced communications.

Questions should be posted no later than 5pm on Wednesday 10th August 2005.
