Government launches new virus alert site!28 February 2005

A key

In September 2004, the number of malicious programs circulating topped the 100,000 mark in the UK. To battle the increase of viruses and malware being circulated, the government has launched a new site called ITsafe, a service that will alert home users and small businesses of serious Internet security risks and issues.

To sign up for the service visit the website and you will then be informed of damaging viruses, software vulnerabilities and weaknesses on devices such as mobile phones.

The main aim of the site is to provide easy to understand, useful guidance about security threats and how to deal with them. It is important to note that while the site provides alerts on viruses and advice on how to deal with them, it is still important to use anti-virus software, firewalls, and software updates to stay secure.

Apart from installing anti virus protection and firewalls, other ways of staying safe would be to make sure you keep your software updated. Microsoft issues regular patches for Windows users. You also need to be more aware and not open suspicious emails or attachments that seem unfamiliar to you.

Click to visit the ITsafe website and sign up for virus alerts now.
