Important information regarding VoIP:
Access to Emergency Services is provided but calls including emergency calls to 999 or 112, made via BT Broadband Voice may not work in the event of power or broadband connection failure.
These failures may be caused by reasons outside our control. Location information, provided to the emergency services, is associated with your primary Business PSTN billing address; this may not be where the call was originated. If this is not the correct location where you are using the service you can update it by calling us on: 0800 169 1146.
For these reasons we strongly recommend a primary telephone line is maintained for contacting the emergency services.
BT Hosted VoIP supports up to 8 lines over Broadband connection however we recommend the following in relation to the service:
The call quality on BT Hosted VoIP lines may not match that of normal landlines. Call quality is dependant upon the available bandwidth provided by the BT Business Broadband connection and therefore can be affected by a combination of factors including (but not limited to):-
- internet traffic
- the uploading or downloading of data (particularly large files) over the same Broadband connection; and
- making or receiving of simultaneous VoIP calls
BT therefore strongly recommends that if you use a dedicated BT Business Broadband connection solely for internet voice traffic to ensure maximum voice quality.
Note: We provide Broadband Voice product labels that you can place on your Broadband Voice service (telephones etc) indicating that Emergency Service calls may fail in the event of power or network failure.
